BeefStakes is still on, and I'm determined to make the best of it, but the unassailable fact remains that I'm not going to come even close to matching my opponent's yearlong consumption. He's eaten the equivalent of a two year-old steer, while my total is more representative of its much younger, and punier, brother.
And so, there's no real frantic haste in catching up. So, I've heeded my old friend's advice, and sampled what beckons from the other side of the pasture fence. Take, for example, these butter-fried softshells with a garden salad and mash-ki-daal, and old Indian recipe.
Not a scrap of beef on the plate, either. And though I did miss my Young Belted Galloway while sucking down crab innards, I realized that soon, very soon, it will be time to move along, little dogie.
are crabs permitted within the halal tradition? I know for sure they're not kosher.
Posted by: guy at December 5, 2004 03:51 PMIt totally depends on one's madhhab (Islamic tradition, or school of jurisprudence). And even within a given madhhab, different scholars come to different conclusions about crabs. I tend to follow Hanafi traditions by default (as I live in a predominantly Hanafi community), and know a number of people in my community who eat crabs and an equal number who don't. Whenever something is so vigorously debated, it's not clearly haram in my opinion. Kinda like turtles.
