The Eyes of Charles Sand

DSC02122.JPG

I don't know if it was a ghost or a woman in a burqa with really fat fingers. Either way, the way the haunting figure protectively held onto its beef plate scared the living shit out of me.

This experience was eerily similar to a jarring experience from my childhood. One night, late, I was home alone, in the dark, flipping TV channels, when I came upon "The Eyes of Charles Sand", a B-Horror film. The movie contained scenes so shocking that I literally almost suffered a heart attack at the age of 14. Guy, upon learning of this youthful trauma, took it upon himself to seek out this forgotten B-movie. And what a task: the film had such a limited run in the TV circuit back in the 80's that when he finally recovered it, the film had been festering in some TV company vault for over a decade. But when he eventually had it in his hands, Guy promptly sent a copy to me. And I again felt compelled to watch it, to face my childhood demons. As for Guy, I love him, in all of his tender cruelty.

In turn, I wonder: was it Guy behind the sheet this time as well? Attempting to scare me away from the meat that I hold dear to my heart? Or was it some phantom beef-oracle, warning me of some unanticipated doom from consuming bovine flesh?

Or am I just seeing things?

first of all, it was a d-grade film at best.

secondly, despite this apparition's intentions, whatever they may have been, perhaps your interpretation of it as a warning not to eat so much beef may have been your own conscience hitting close to the mark. You have been overdoing it, and maybe should cut down for your own sake.

and thirdly, I would never dress up in a sheet like that. I would wear a cow suit, if anything, to attempt to frighten you. Or an Adam West outfit, perhaps.

Regardless, you should listen to yourself and relax a little. Beef + stress = disaster. Best remove a little of each from your lifestyle, eh?
