Recalled Beef
I'll tell you what I remember most about this Memorial Day weekend. This, of course:
Practically all of that meat went into my stomach over the course of the weekend. It even got eaten cold, right out of the refrigerator:
While I dutifully contemplated the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform in wars present and past, I also recalled others who sacrificed their lives so that my own life would be better. The multitude of cows fattened and slaughtered for my eating pleasure, for example. Their memory will live on in my sinews, and caught between my teeth. No indeed, they didn't die in vain. Even as leftovers.
