Why does beef turn brown when cooked? I don't know. I honestly don't care.
But I must admit, I love the color of cooked meat. It is the color of the earth, whence came the plants and animals, and the horn of plenty. Sun worshipers seek that golden brown complexion. Cleveland loves its Browns (why else would they name it so?). Send away all of your offensive electric blue popsicles, your sickly crimson beets, your green glowing Jolly Ranchers. Give me brown. Brown is sublime.
My dinner was about as brown as I could muster. 6.5 ounces of browned cubed steak (347.25 total) (courtesy of Laura's Lean Beef (TM)) and a dollop of complementarily colored mashed potatoes smothered in brown onion gravy. I pity the sightless, as their sensation of such a meal is merely limited to taste.
Brown is beautiful.
